BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BOSNIAN WAR
A rigorous and complete vision of the most bloody genocidal episode in Europe’s recent history. Ethnic cleansing, refugees, population movements, massacres, and atrocities. Starting with the historical roots of the conflict, the gradual breakdown of Yugoslavia, and the bloody siege of Sarajevo, up until the Conference for the integration of the Balkans in Europe, and the end of the war.
In 1992 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia erupted in a bloody war. The world and its leaders appeared to be moving from astonishment to passivity, when not indifference, while social movements, seemed astonished facing this situation.
The people who until then had been distinguished by their unconditional pursuit of peace, and rejection of the war, seemed to advocate for a military response on the face of the horrors of war.
Brief History of the Bosnian War exposes the historical roots of that conflict, describes its violent outbreak, and evidences the contradictions of its protagonists, and the so-called international community.
Fernando Sánchez Aranaz reviews the paradigms of a world that seems to be doomed to repeat its mistakes, if it does not address consistently concepts such as nationality, and citizenship, diversity, multiculturalism, and identity. In short, if the world is not able to resolve conflicts without recreating the violence, it will repeat its mistakes.
This essay is an essential work for those who wish to learn about a conflict nearly forgotten today, but also for those who are aware that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the fight for justice with weapons of justice.
